چکیده

Recently a group of organisms resembling Aeromonas hydrophila has been isolated from human diarrheal cases from marine and estuarine environment. These organisms are tentatively designated as group "F" vibrios. Live cells of 23 strains isolated from different sources were tested for their enterotoxicity in the adult rabbit ileal loop model. All but two caused fluid accumulation comparable to that obtained with Vibrio cholerae 569B. An inoculum of 10(4) viable bacteria could give rise to gut loop reaction. Culture filtrates of the 19 strains tested including one giving negative reaction with live cells also caused accumulation of fluid in loops.

Contribution of Vibrio parahaemolyticus virulence factors to cytotoxicity, enterotoxicity, and lethality in mice.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus, one of the human-pathogenic vibrios, causes three major types of clinical illness: gastroenteritis, wound infections, and septicemia. Thermostable direct hemolysin (TDH) secreted by this bacterium has been considered a major virulence factor of gastroenteritis because it has biological activities, including cytotoxic and enterotoxic activities. Previous reports revealed...

Bile Acid-Induced Virulence Gene Expression of Vibrio parahaemolyticus Reveals a Novel Therapeutic Potential for Bile Acid Sequestrants

Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a bacterial pathogen, causes human gastroenteritis. A type III secretion system (T3SS2) encoded in pathogenicity island (Vp-PAI) is the main contributor to enterotoxicity and expression of Vp-PAI encoded genes is regulated by two transcriptional regulators, VtrA and VtrB. However, a host-derived inducer for the Vp-PAI genes has not been identified. Here, we demonstrate ...

Functional characterization of two type III secretion systems of Vibrio parahaemolyticus.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a gram-negative marine bacterium, is a worldwide cause of food-borne gastroenteritis. Recent genome sequencing of the clinical V. parahaemolyticus strain RIMD2210633 identified two sets of genes for the type III secretion system (TTSS), TTSS1 and TTSS2. Here, we constructed a series of mutant strains from RIMD2210633 to determine whether the two putative TTSS apparatus ...

Comparison of enterotoxicity between autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale L.) and colchicine in the guinea pig and mouse : enterotoxicity in the guinea pig differs from that in the mouse.

Autumn crocus poisoning of cattle is characterized by severe diarrhea caused by alkaloid colchicine. Previously, we examined pathologically this poisoning in cattle and reported that enterotoxic lesions were closely associated with apoptosis. To examine enterotoxicity of autumn crocus more precisely, a reproductive study was performed using guinea pigs and mice, and pathological findings associ...

Non-agglutinable vibrios causing cholera-like disease in Singapore.

Five strains of non-agglutinable or NAG vibrios have been isolated from stool cultures of patients with cholera -like disease. They resembled the true cholera vibrios culturally, but were inagglutinable by the cholera O -group antisera or the rough anti -cholera serum. The vibrios were sensitive to most of the antibiotics tested. Immunological studies showed that the five strains belonged to th...
